Sustainability at the Co-op

Sustainability at the Co-op

At the IV Food Co-op, sustainability is woven into everything we do—from how we source our products to how we operate day-to-day. As a community-owned grocery store, we recognize that our choices have the power to influence positive change in the food system, the environment, and the well-being of future generations.

Supporting Local & Organic Agriculture

We prioritize partnerships with local farmers and producers who grow food sustainably, using organic practices that protect soil health, pollinators, and water resources.

Reducing Packaging Waste

We encourage reusable bags and containers, offer bulk-buying options, and continuously seek compostable or recyclable packaging alternatives.

Promoting Plant-Rich Diets

By offering a wide selection of plant-based and whole-food options, we support dietary choices that have a lower environmental impact.

Conserving Energy & Resources

We’ve implemented energy-efficient refrigeration, LED lighting, and waste diversion programs to lower our carbon footprint.

Educating and Empowering

Through in-store signage, events, and community partnerships, we help shoppers make informed choices that align with their values and support a healthier planet.

Did you know?

The global food system is responsible for over one-third of all greenhouse gas emissions—with food production, transportation, and waste all playing a role (UNEP, 2021).

By shopping co-op and making conscious choices, you’re helping shift the system toward sustainability.
